Emma George founded Risco Studio in 2024 with the focus of creating 3D printed wearable pieces of art in the form of footwear. Her practice uses 3D technology to lead the way in what is the future of footwear design and the wider fashion industry as we approach a more digital way of life.
Having studied in the renowned Cordwainers College at the heart of London College of Fashion, who has seen the likes of designers such as Jimmy Choo, Sophia Webster and Patrick Cox. Her mission is to explore what is the future of footwear design and challenge the traditional practices of shoemaking.
Her practice embraces the future of fashion and uses a combination of 3D Scanning, 3D Sculpting, Modelling and 3D printing. She has spent time working closely with 3D artists and makers to develop her knowledge of working with innovative materials such as TPU plastic and 3D printers. Conversely her upbringing in the welsh countryside of Pembrokeshire, West Wales has fed into her artistic vision and recognisably uses organic sculptural forms in her work.
Emma has been awarded the Drapers' Footwear Student Designer of the Year 2019 as well as the Churchill x Pentland Competition for her designs. She has also been shortlisted for the Kering x Gucci Sustainability awards and has been interviewed by multiple Welsh TV programmes for her work.
Since starting Risco Studio, she has collaborated with renowned fashion designer CLARA PINTO and welcomes future collaborations with emerging designers as she grows her practice.
